Frequently Asked Questions

What is ScottyCon?

ScottyCon is an anime/video game convention founded by Cosplay@CMU, Artist Alley Club, CMU Esports, and Vermillion Anime Club. It is an annual convention that happens in March at Carnegie Mellon University. We host activities including various crafts, video games, and anime screenings, as well as booths for CMU artists from whom you can buy merchandise. This year, we plan to host some new events and collaborate with more CMU clubs.

Where can I purchase tickets?

Ticket sales for ScottyCon 2024 will open in late January.

Can I attend if I don't go to CMU?

Yes! Please come see all the hard work that CMU students have put together!

Do I have to be vaccinated to attend?

CMU expects visitors to be fully vaccinated. While ScottyCon will not officially check your vaccination status, you may be asked by school authorities to show a proof of vaccination. Please visit CMU's visitor protocol for more information.

Do I need to wear a mask to attend?

Masks are recommended.

Why do CMU students receive a ticket discount?

CMU students receive a discount because our event is partially funded by the Student Activities Fee, which is paid for by CMU students.

Do I need to purchase tickets if I have been accepted as a panelist/artist/performer/volunteer/club representative?

You do not need to purchase tickets if you are an accepted panelist/artist/performer/volunteer. We will send out instructions for a free ticket. If your club has been accepted to host an activity, we will provide a certain number of free tickets (details to be communicated at a later date). Note that we cannot provide free tickets to masquerade participants.

Can I request a refund for my ticket?

We are not able to refund tickets unless you are a panelist/artist/performer/volunteer/club representative who receives a free ticket from us after having purchased a ticket online.

Why are tickets no longer free?

In order to afford more activity supplies and bring in more arcade cabinets, we need more funding than the school can provide us. Merch orders and sponsorships are not enough to cover those costs. Therefore, we charge tickets at a low price to ensure we have enough funds to run the convention.

Is ScottyCon a new convention?

While ScottyCon is relatively new, we have had successful runs in 2019, 2022 and 2023. It was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 because of Covid-19.

How can I apply to host a panel/perform at ScottyCon?

How can I apply to table at the Artist Alley?
